Reversed Stupidity
I never did excel in my English studies while going through my school years. To be honest it was one of my worst feared subjects. I dreaded the thought of having to go to class every day and on most occasions it was quite easy to find something more important to do during that hour of the day.
I bring this up because I admit that I should be the last person on this planet to criticize how other people spell and/or speak. But for some reason, for as long as I remember it has bugged me how society uses the terms "reversed racism", "reversed discrimination", and most recently "reversed ageism".
Please make a quick note people: Racism means to look down upon, or discredit someone or something based on their race. No where can I find a definition for "racism" that suggests the term is meant to be used in one direction only. Racism is NOT about white people being ignorant towards blacks.... it is about people discriminating against another because of ethnic differences. "Reversed racism" and Reversed discrimination" do NOT exist and do not make sense.
Why are these terms used so widely in our speech these days? I hear it on the news, I read it on the internet, and I find it in the newspapers as well. I think the real reason this bugs me so much is because how obvious a mistake it is to use these terms that even a part-time high school English student such as myself can see the error... and believe me, my English ain't no good at all :)
I consider myself lucky that I never have to endure the allegations of either being a racist.... or even a reversed racist. That's just one advantage to hating everybody equally.
