Houston, We Have A Problem
I really hate what's been going on lately with the United States Space Program, and I think the politics are coming straight from the top. Why was there such a big rush to launch this latest shuttle when there were so many questions being asked? Was there at any one time in the history of N.A.S.A. where a perfect mission had to be more important? If not for the lives of seven atsronauts and billions of dollars invested then at least for the morale of the American population and the integrity of the entire program?
If, God forbid, this shuttle comes back to Earth in more pieces than it went up, it'll destroy so much more than the lives and families of seven brave people.
I honestly think that President Bush is behind this whole thing right from the word go. How the space program was able to get billions of more dollars in funding from the government after it's last tragedy and be able to turn around so fast and launch well before it's ready, even by their own admissions, is beyond me. Was there a deal made? Did Bush agree to pave way for the funding in return for a spot on the podium at the end of the runway after a successful landing? Is this his weak attempt of diverting America's attention from the shambles he has left in the Middle East? That moron can stand in front on the shuttle all he wants while waving the red, white, and blue but he's got to be even dumber than he sounds if he thinks this will help him politically.
Seriously, take a look back at all the presidents in America's history. Through the good, bad and ugly everyone of those men can be remembered for some sort of accomplishment during their time in office. What will President W. Bush be remembered for? Never has one man disgraced this country more or put it so far behind the eight ball as far as global politics are concerned. How in the hell did this guy ever get re-elected? I truly hate politics and it surprises even me to see how flabbergasted I am with this idiot.
But back to the space program, I just have a terrible feeling about this mission and the results a failed mission will have.... on everybody. I also have a feeling that when they were having problem after problem with the shuttle that the astronauts had genuine concerns but might have been too afraid to voice them... or to try and back out of the program. And now where are they? They went ahead with the launch, had the exact same problems that caused the last mission to fail and promised to fix before EVER flying again, and have now cancelled all future missions indefinitely. Why weren't these measures put in place BEFORE the launch?? These are astronauts... not guinea pigs!
God Bless them, my prayers go out to them, but damn I have a really bad feeling about all of this.

"How in the hell did this guy ever get re-elected?" Well said! we in Canada have been wondering that ourselves!! Even laid bets that there was no way he would actually be VOTED in (its one thing to win on a botched election..but COME ON!) Come On Folks...get him out! Wonder what Tony Blair is thinking about his relationship with George? Bet he wishes he hadn't joined the "Delview Park 3 o'clock" fight. The world has changed now and it will be a long, long time before someone else can fix this awful mess. Peace! Ann
Is the necessity to explore space worth "billions" of dollars? Why not use that same amount of money to solve the problems of poverty, health and education issues at home first?
